On the way to school yesterday, Kelly's random thought of the day was "what would it be like if the earth didn't have any trees?" We were all quick to agree that a world with trees is a much better place than one without.
That being said we are all very sad that the maple tree in front of our house has been given the orange mark of death and the city will be coming to cut it down soon.
But until then, we have had some exciting interaction with nature. These huge ichneumon wasps have been drilling holes and laying eggs in the dead wood of our tree. When looking for information about them I found a write up about the wasps by the UW Milwaukee bug lady featuring them as the bug of the week. 
So we were right in our thoughts about trees. Trees are needed and wonderful (even when they are dead) because they can attract cool creatures like these.
